VIDEO: Vancouver Craft Beer Week collaboration ale brew day

The cream of B.C.’s brewing talent gathered at Red Truck Beer Company‘s new facility in Vancouver on Friday to help brew the official beer of this year’s Vancouver Craft Beer Week.

Billed as a “hands-across-East Van” project helmed by Red Truck brewer Hamish MacRae, Main Street brewmaster Jack Bensley and Parallel 49 brewmaster Graham With, the brewing process began early Friday before brewers from across the province filtered into the venue to meet up, weigh in on the recipe and crack a beer or two. There were not a few looks of wonder as well, as Red Truck staff showed guests around their impressive and very shiny new Brewery Creek brewhouse.

This year’s collaboration beer — a smoked kölsch using smoked cherrywood malts from the Midwest and sterling hops from the Fraser Valley — should be ready by early May, when we’re hopeful of getting an advance taste as bottles roll off the production line

Videographer Rafe Arnott and I sneaked into Red Truck to see what was brewing on brew day.
